Houseplant is a Louisville, Kentucky-based band whose music blends improvisation, indie-rock songwriting, lush psychedelic soundscapes, and groove-driven rhythms. Their songs provide the foundation for live performances that are immersive, dynamic, and never played exactly the same way twice. Mandolinist Tavis Conley and bassist Tommy Arnspiger built the band during the 2020 lockdown and spent a year writing before their first gig in May 2021. Keyboardist Sam Richardson and guitarist Chris “Roadie” Rodahaffer followed, and former Goose drummer Ben Atkind joined in 2025 — the line-up heard on the all-instrumental Explorations No. 1: The Opal Sun. With Ray Rizzo now on drums, the band enters a new chapter. The records run from Live from the Greenhouse, Vol. 1 (2021) and the debut single “Acetone” (2022) — a WFPK Song of the Day — through vibrations of night (2024) and the single “You (and Yourself)” (February 2026) to the new studio album The Lucky Tree, out October 6, 2026. On stage they have played Bonnaroo, FloydFest, Hookahville and Dark Star Jubilee, opened for Umphrey’s McGee and Eggy, and they close 2026 with dates in Bridgeport, Brooklyn and Wayne, PA and two hometown nights at Zanzabar before a January–February 2027 run through Cleveland, Buffalo, Millvale, St. Louis and Peoria.
