Houseplant is a Louisville, Kentucky-based band whose music blends improvisation, indie-rock songwriting, lush psychedelic soundscapes, and groove-driven rhythms. Their songs provide the foundation for live performances that are immersive, dynamic, and never played exactly the same way twice.
While improvisation is central to the band’s identity, Houseplant places equal importance on memorable songwriting, lyrical depth, and thoughtful arrangements. Their live shows move naturally between tightly crafted compositions and spontaneous exploration, allowing each performance to develop its own character while remaining rooted in the songs themselves.
Whether performing intimate clubs or festival stages, Houseplant creates an experience that rewards both attentive listening and collective celebration. The band’s collaborative approach and musical curiosity continue to shape a sound that is unmistakably their own.
With the addition of drummer Ray Rizzo, the group enters a new chapter, fueled by fresh chemistry and a shared commitment to thoughtful songwriting and exploratory, high-energy live performance.
Houseplant is Tommy Arnspiger (bass), Ray Rizzo (drums), Tavis Conley (mandolin, vocals), Sam Richardson (keys, vocals) and Chris “Roadie” Rodahaffer (guitar, vocals).

It’s the sound of My Morning Jacket, Frank Zappa, Phish and The Flaming Lips all jamming together in the parking lot at a late ’60s Grateful Dead show.
Houseplant keeps crowds on their toes, with hips shaking, feet moving, heads swaying, souls fed, and minds blown.
Some of those recordings were documented at the Greenhouse, their home rehearsal space, showcasing their knack for advanced arrangements and improvisation.
